THE INCREASING ROLE OF DUAL AUXILIARY BATTERIES

Many 4x4 users, in an endeavour to keep the fridge as cold as possible, for as long as possible, add a second auxiliary battery to their vehicle.  Some also add a second battery to power additional 12V, or 220V appliances via an inverter.  At best, for a fridge, this might buy you one extra day without additional recharging.  If you are going to make a 3 or 4 day trip away from Mains power, then this will definitely help get you the extra day of cold beers!  However, if you are going away for several weeks, you will need to find a way to keep them charged and giving you the extra storage power you need overnight and between travelling.  There are several way that you can do this:
  1. Increase your alternator output with a MAXAMP alternator from PMP
  2. Add a solar panel for those days when you don’t travel but still need to add charge to your batteries
  3. Add an MXS Booster regulator for shortening your charging time and to increase your alternator outputs, especially at slow speeds.
  4. Charge up your batteries whenever you have access to Mains power with a powerful, multi-stage, Mains charger
  5. Install an effective Multi Battery Management System to ensure that the alternator’s surplus power is optimally deployed for the topping up of all your batteries before it settles into ‘float’ mode.

The same applies for those employing additional auxiliary batteries in their trailer where the charging of these batteries is often problemsatic, at best.  Contact us for a solution at Plan My Power.
